Two firemen are the subject of criminal and departmental investigations after they were accused of stealing a laptop from a fire scene recently on Quamina Street, Georgetown, Fire Chief Gregory Wickham said on Wednesday.
[simpay id=”85861″]He said the laptop was returned to the owner, but the matter was not closed. The laptop was allegedly stolen from an unaffected house in the same compound with the now gutted Quamina Guest House just off Carmichael Street.
“We’ve had reports of that and so the police is dealing with all of those issues,” Mr Wickham said when asked by Demerara Waves Online News.
The Fire Chief said the firemen had been released from police custody but they were available so that the police “could access them at any time”.
The fire service was also conducting its probe into the occurrence, resulting in the need for the suspects to report for duty.
Asked the reason that the duo was still on duty although the laptop was returned and they had apparently admitted culpability, Mr Wickham said on conclusion of the investigation “the procedure will work.”
