The United Kingdom (UK) has appointed a new High Commissioner to Guyana and he would also be his country’s non-resident ambassador to Suriname and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) announced on Wednesday.
Mr Joseph Fisher’s last appointment was Private Secretary to the National Security Adviser from 2024 to 2025.
He succeeds Ms Jane Miller who has gone into retirement from the diplomatic service, the FCDO said.
A graduate of the Defence Academy where he pursued the Higher Command and Staff Course, Mr Fisher served as Deputy Head of the National Security Secretariat in the cabinet office from 2020 to 2022.
Other posts held included Deputy Principal Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
During his career that dates back to 2007 when he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO}, Mr Fisher served in Yangon, Myanmar as the acting Deputy Head of Mission; Team Leader of the FCO’s European Union Directorate, and FCO Deputy Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Coordinator.
He also worked in Afghanistan.
