As police investigated recent robberies in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an AK-47 assault rifle, one 9mm pistol and matching ammunition, police said.
The firearms and ammunition were found on Tuesday during an operation conducted at Ulverston Village, police said.
Police said the man is a construction worker of Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
During the exercise, police said they conducted checks at a location in Ulverston Village where a cutlass sack was discovered in a tamarind tree on an empty plot of land.
Police said inside the sack were one 9mm pistol with four matching 9mm rounds, one AK-47 rifle with 17 matching 7.62 rounds and one pair of gloves.
The suspect was escorted to the Rose Hall Town Police Station along with the suspected firearms and ammunition, which were lodged pending investigation, police added.
