A 46-year-old cane harvester of Corentyne is believed to have committed suicide by poisoning one day after he stabbed his wife at their Number 76 Village Housing Scheme residence, police said.
Police said Patrick Mahendra Singh’s body was found on February 23 at about 10:45 a.m. “He is suspected to have ingested a poisonous substance,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.
Investigators were informed that at about 1:30 p.m. on February 22, Singh allegedly wounded the woman who then reportedly ran to a neighbouring yard with injuries about her body.
She related that she had a misunderstanding with her reputed husband, during which he allegedly stabbed her with a knife, police added.
The suspect reportedly left the area on a motorcycle before ingesting poison.
The victim was taken to the Number 75 Public Hospital, where she was admitted as a patient. “Her condition was initially listed as serious but is now stable,” police also said.
