Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman on Monday morning issued an arrest warrant for Azruddin Mohamed after he failed to turn up in court on time.
The warrant was issued at 9:05 a.m.
Defence lawyer, Roysdale Forde failed in his bid to convince the magistrate that such action not be taken to which she responded: “I will guarantee that your client will be here, Counsel, on the next occasion for 9 o’clock sharp.”
After hearing an update from the lawyer for Nazar Mohamed, Siand Dhurjon, due to his absence as a result of illness, she adjourned the case to February 18 “for an updated medical certificate” but not before expressing grave concern about the younger Mohamed’s unpunctual attendance.
“In relation to Mr Azruddin Mohamed, he is very disrespectful and an arrest warrant has been issued for him. He has to be punctual,” she said.
The magistrate noted that Monday was not the first time that she had expressed concern about Mr Mohamed’s lateness for court.
Mr Moahmed and his father are each on GY$150,000 bail pending the outcome of an extradition committal hearing.
They are wanted by the United States to face trial for alleged wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering.
