City businessman Nazar “Shell” Mohamed has fallen ill and could not attend Monday’s scheduled continuation of the extradition committal hearing, causing the case to be postponed by one week.
After hearing representation by Defence Lawyer, Siand Dhurjon, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman set Monday, February 16 as the next date for the report.
Prosecutor for the United States (US), Glenn Hanoman was unsuccessful in securing a commitment, through the magistrate, that the report would be coming from Mr Mohamed’s doctor.
Mr Mohamed and his son, Azruddin Mohamed, are wanted by the US to face trial in a Florida federal court for alleged wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering linked to their gold trading business.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sharon Roochand-Edwards was on Monday expected to continue her testimony under cross-examination.
Mr Hanoman said there would be other witnesses in the case.
Also absent from court was lead prosecutor, Terrence Williams, due to a pressing overseas engagement, according to Mr Hanoman.
