Just over two years after she was elected Mayor of Mahdia, Ms Eslyn Romascindo-Hussain on Thursday resigned, citing health reasons, according to a letter she dispatched to the local government ministry.
“During my three years of work at the council was very challenging and continued to be causing my physical and mental health to be unstable,” she said in the letter to local government minister Priya Manickchand and copied to junior local government minister Pauline Sukhai.
The mayor said she would step down from February 1, 2026 because that position “is not suitable for me and I must prioritize my well being.”
Ms Romascindo-Hussain was sworn in as Mahdia’s mayor in July, 2023.
