Police investigators in Regional Division #7 say they are probing an alleged stabbing incident involving two brothers that left one dead and the other critically injured.
The incident occurred at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River, on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Matthew Ramlichan, a pork-knocker formerly residing on the Soesdyke–Linden Highway. The brother of the deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Tyrone Ramlichan, also a pork-knocker of Soesdyke Linden Highway. His condition is currently listed as stable.
The body of the deceased is currently at the Bartica Regional Hospital Mortuary, awaiting transport to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for a Post-Mortem Examination police said.
The suspect remains at large, as police continue their search and investigation, the police force said.
Investigators were told that the two brothers, who are employed as pork knockers in the area, became involved in a heated altercation with another male at the landing during the evening hours.
“During the altercation, the suspect reportedly armed himself with a pair of scissors and dealt both brothers several stabs about their bodies. Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene and managed to make good his escape,” the Guyana Police Force said.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect as investigations into the matter continue, police said.
