A man has been arrested in connection with the break-and-enter and larceny committed on the Ministry of Home Affairs during the early hours of Monday morning, the Guyana Police Force said.
CCTV footage was obtained and reviewed leading to the subsequent arrest of a 48-year-old man, along with several items that were recovered.
Investigators said that between 3 a.m. and 4:55 a.m. the Ministry of Home Affairs building on Brickdam, Georgetown was burgled and several electronic devices, including laptops, electronic tablets and digital cameras, along with a quantity of personal property belonging to a staff member were reported stolen from the building.
Police said sections of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ middle and lower flats were ransacked.
Police believed that the thief entered the building through an eastern-side washroom window on the lower flat which was found open.
For its part, the home affairs ministry said the surveillance video shows the suspect entering the building by pulling open the washroom window and later moving about the middle flat carrying a black, bulky travelling bag.
“The footage further shows the suspect exiting the building via a fire escape on the northern side before scaling the eastern fence with the said bag and proceeding east along Croal Street,” the ministry added.
