Two persons were up to Monday hospitalised for gunshot wounds after a man in a car opened fire on Lover’s Lane, Amelia’s Ward, Linden, the Guyana Police Force said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at about 10:30. Those injured are a vendor of Central Amelia’s Ward, 32 years old, and a carpenter of South Amelia’s Ward. Their names were not disclosed and police did not say whether any suspects were detained.
“Initial investigations revealed that the vendor was standing in front of his shop, while the carpenter was walking close by, when a motor car drove up and came to a halt near them, during which an individual inside the vehicle allegedly discharged several rounds in their direction,” police said.
The vendor was shot to his chest and the carpenter sustained a gunshot wound to the foot.
Both men were escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex, where they were seen and treated.
Police added that the vendor was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical attention, while the carpenter remains at the Linden Hospital Complex receiving treatment.
Their conditions are reported as stable, police said.
