A Guyanese man was on Thursday night killed as a result of a collision between the car he was travelling in and a horse in the vicinity of Antigua and Barbuda’s Sir Wright F. George Police Training Academy, police said Friday.
Antigua and Barbuda police did not name the victim in its statement, but his United States-based father Brian Bristol on Saturday told the media that the dead man was his son, 40-year-old Brenton Anthony Bristol, of Hodge’s Bay. His mother’s name is Desiree Lewis.
Mr Bristol said his son was living in Antigua since 2006 and worked as a plumber/landscaper. His address in Guyana is Lot 5 Joseph Pollydore (D’urban Street) Lodge, Georgetown.
The Antigua and Barbuda Police Force said they were investigating the accident that occurred at about 11:30 p.m. between a silver Audi motor car A7346 and a brown horse.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was travelling from south to north along Friars Hill Road at a high rate of speed, when it collided with the horse, causing the driver to momentarily lose control. Both the driver and his passenger sustained injuries during the impact.
“A 40-year-old male from Hodges Bay, who was a passenger of the vehicle later succumbed to his injuries. The animal also died at the scene.
EMS personnel transported the driver of the vehicle to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he was treated for head injuries and remains in stable condition. A medical doctor pronounced the man dead 12:54 a.m.
