President Ali on Thursday warned that contractors that are dragging their feet on the construction of several bridges on the Berbice main road would not be awarded new contracts.
“These contractors seem disinterested in the completion of these bridges. I have instructed the Permanent Secretary and the Procurement Head to take all the necessary actions to ensure these contractors are not awarded any projects until these bridges are completed,” he told residents in New Amsterdam during a cabinet outreach.
Declaring that there could be no more excuses and “we pay for services and they must be delivered,” the Guyanese leader said his government intended to take action against Project Engineers that had been assigned to supervise those projects but were not performing.
He said the finance secretary could take administrative action against those engineers.
Dr Ali restated that his government was forging ahead with the creation of a digitalised society to ensure greater efficiency and less dependency on solely human inputs in decision-making.
