Suspected cattle rustler among several arrested

Last Updated on Sunday, 16 November 2025, 18:54 by Writer

A man, who is wanted for cattle rustling, was among four persons arrested in Plaisance and Better Hope, East Coast Demerara on Sunday morning, the Guyana Police Force said.

Investigators provided little details about the suspected rustler, but said he is 32 years old, a taxi driver and lives in North Sparendaam.

A construction worker, 33, of Vryheid’s Lust was arrested for allegedly discharging a loaded firearm.

Police said the two other persons were arrested during an operation at a property in Better Hope South in connection with the alleged discovery of suspected marijuana.

One of those arrested is a gold miner, 26, of Britton Street, Plaisance and a construction worker, 48, of Better Hope South.

Police said 248 grams of the suspected narcotic were found on the person of the gold miner and 63.5 grammes were found inside a wardrobe belonging to the construction worker.

They were arrested and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where the suspected narcotics were weighed in their presence and lodged as evidence.

Police also discovered 1,411 grammes of suspected marijuana concealed in a black plastic bag hidden among vegetation in a yard at Britton Street, Plaisance.
