Seven charged with terrorism for bombing gas station

Four Venezuelans and three Guyanese were on Tuesday charged with terrorism related to the bombing of the Mobil gas station on Regent and King streets, Georgetown more than one week ago, the Guyana Police Force said on Tuesday.

Police said they would appear in court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to be arraigned on the charge.

The police force said it conducted “comprehensive investigations into the explosion” but did not reveal the motive for the attack that occurred on October 26, 2025 at about 7:24 p.m.

After legal advice was obtained from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), those charged as a result of the evidence gathered are Venezuelans 33-year-old Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo, 33-year-old Jennifer Rodriguez, 27-year-old Johnny Boodram and 44-year-old Alexander Bettancourt. The Guyanese charged with the offence are 44-year-old Wayne Corriea, 51-year-old Ramesh Pramdeo, 33-year-old Krystal La Cruz.

The Guyana Police Force used the opportunity to assure the public that the “investigation was conducted with professionalism, integrity and strict adherence to due process”. “The Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting citizens and ensuring peace and public safety across the nation while expressing gratitude to the public and partner agencies for their continued cooperation and support in this matter,” the law enforcement agency said in a statement.

Police had already informed the media that Mr Ramirez Poedemo, who was placed at the crime scene by video surveillance recordings, confessed to detonating the device that he had initially intended to place in a garbage bin near a fuel pump. After the pump attendant told him not to do so, he was seem placing the bag near a parked car where it exploded moments later, destroying a car and killing a six-year-old girl and injuring several others.

Investigators were also told that Mr Ramirez Poedemo and a Venezuelan accomplice, who entered Guyana illegally with the device, landed by boat at a koker at Parika at about 8 a.m. on October 26. They then travelled in a taxi and allegedly conducted surveillance of the gas station before depositing the device there.

The gas station and several nearby buildings were damaged by the explosion that was heard at least 2 kilometres away.
