The confessed gas station bomber and his fellow Venezuelan accomplice landed at a koker at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, Guyana’s top detective said Wednesday evening.
Head of the Guyana Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department, Deputy Commissioner Wendell Blanhum’s revelation came one day after he told a news conference that the prime suspect, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, amd his accomplice entered Guyana illegally at about 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
Hours later, at 7:24 p.m., a violent explosion occurred at the Mobil gas station on Regent and King streets, killing a six-year-old girl and seriously injuring four others who were in a car.
Mr Blanhum on Wednesday said further questioning of the suspects revealed that some time between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. on the same day, Mr Ramirez Peodomo, and his accomplice from Venezuela along with a female accomplice and a hired taxi driver went to Georgetown in the motor car and parked within the vicinity of the gas station.
The female accomplice then exited the car and went to the KFC outlet at the same Mobil gas station where she purchased food for the two Venezuelans, police said.
“It was at that moment that the Venezuelans took the opportunity to conduct surveillance of the fuel station before executing their act to bomb the fuel station,” Deputy Commissioner Blanhum said.
He said they returned to Region Three.
The taxi driver is also in police custody, and the taxi was recovered by police.
Prior to arresting Mr Ramirez Peodomo at Side Line Dam, Vergenoegen, police had found clothing that they said he was wearing at the time he detonated the device.
Mr Blanhum on Tuesday said the man, who confessed to committing the crime and was identified by his accomplices as the main perpetrator, told investigators that he transported the device from Venezuela.
Mr Ramirez Peodomo also told investigators that the explosive device was controlled by a switch that he activated.
The man had attempted to place two bulky black plastic bags in a waste bin near one of the fuel pumps, but the pump attendant disallowed him from doing so. He then placed the bags near the rear of a car in the gas station compound.
Home Affairs minister Oneidge Walrond and Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken on Wednesday said that in the coming weeks all foreigners, who are in Guyana illegally, would be required to register failing which they would be put out of the country.
Mr Hicken said Mr Ramirez Peodomo could be charged with terrorism, murder, attempted murder, arson and malicious damage to property. If convicted for the terrorism charge, he would be sentenced to death.
