School dropout allegedly kills tour guide, manhunt for conspirators

John Elliot

Last Updated on Monday, 22 September 2025, 15:14 by Writer

John Elliot

A 16-year-old boy early on Sunday morning allegedly stabbed to death a tour guide, who was attached to Atta Lodge in the Iwokrama Rainforest reserve, during an Amerindian Heritage celebration at Annai, North Rupununi, police said.

The tour guide, John Elliot, 21, resided at Surama Village, North Rupununi,

The Guyana Police Force said a policewoman, who attended the celebration, witnessed the stabbing and provided a “detailed statement” but the teenaged school drop-out, who was arrested at the home of the other two suspects – brothers 20-year-old Ronaldo Williams and 18-year-old Orlando Williams – denied committing the act at about 1:30 on Sunday morning.

“The suspect, when questioned, in the presence of his mother, denied any involvement and stated that it was one of the other suspects, 18-year-old Orlando Williams who had stabbed the victim,” police said.

The policewoman, who is stationed at Annai Police Station, “positively identified” the boy as the person who stabbed Elliot to his chest.

Police said they are on the manhunt for the Williams brothers.

Elliot’s body was examined at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Annai District Hospital and two stab wounds were observed to the left side chest and right side rib area.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be performed on the remains of the deceased on September 22, 2025.
