President Irfaan Ali and his new Cabinet

President Irfaan Ali on Saturday said the work of the new 25-member Cabinet would be under constant review, as government forges ahead with ensuring that it delivers on its projects and programmes.

He said the focus of his new administration would be to serve all Guyanese in achieving prosperity, transformation and a better quality of life.  Reiterating the need to deliver his government’s vision with speed over the next five “decisive” years, he identified several objectives in ensuring results-driven, people-centered and efficient delivery of service.

“The new Cabinet today is put on notice that these are the measuring sticks. There will be continuous assessment and there will be changes where such changes are necessary because the foundation of this new government is about results, people, efficiency, transparency and relentless hard work,” he said minutes before they took their oaths of office before him.

The Cabinet has seen the creation of the Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation and the Ministry of Public Service Government Efficiency and Implementation. There are also new Ministers of Home Affairs, Amerindian Affairs, Education, and Local Government and Regional Development. Manpower Planning has been added to the Labour Ministry portfolio.

Among the junior ministers is well-known Guyanese cricketer Steven Jacobs who has moved from being a City Councillor to a minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

The President said the new Cabinet is a mixture of ethnicity, gender, youth and experience all of which would be supported by technical expertise and skills. He said many professionals, who have joined the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) list of candidates, are highly skilled and technically competent. “These candidates will form the backbone of this government. Their services, their technical expertise will be part of the driving force. It will be part of the human capital and the human asset that will drive the transformation, the effectiveness, the efficiency of this government,” he said.

In addition to the 25 members, he confirmed the appointment of several presidential advisors. They are cardiologist Dr Mahendra Carven as Advisor on Science and Healthcare Modernisation; Advisor on Climate Change and Biodoiversity, Shyam Nokta; Advisor on  Tertiary Education and Reform, Kofi Dalrymple; One Guyana Commission advisor, Ruel Johnson; Senior Advisor on Home Affairs and Natural Resources, Robeson Benn, and Advisor on Labour and Manpower Planning, Joseph Hamilton.

The Cabinet members are:

  • Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira
  • Minister of Finance, Dr Ashni Singh
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd
  • Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand
  • Minister in the Ministry Local Government and Regional Development, Pauline Sukhai
  • Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond
  • Minister of Education, Sonia Parag
  • Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha
  • Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony
  • Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill
  • Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar
  • Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally
  • Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues
  • Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Sarah Brown
  • Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy
  • Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith
  • Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson
  • Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat
  • Minister of Housing, Collin Croal
  • Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud
  • Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Vickash Ramkissoon
  • Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Madanlall Ramraj
  • Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs
  • Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn
