Edghill sent to Privileges Committee; decision pending for Trotman, Teixeira

Juan Edghill

Last Updated on Sunday, 22 June 2025, 9:40 by Writer

Several gunshots were late on Saturday night fired outside the South Ruimveldt residence of Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill.

He told Demerara Waves Online News that more than 15 spent shells were recovered from the scene.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) did not respond to several queries about the incident in the Joint Services Media WhatsApp group.

Mr Edghill later posted on his Facebook profile that “The Lord has been our protector. The Edghill’s family is safe in God’s hands. Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers.”

Saturday night’s shooting followed the June 1, 2025 arson attack on a building owned by Mr Edghill’s church on Joseph Pollydore (D’urban) Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

The suspected arsonist was days later found at a city hospital where he was admitted for severe burns. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording shows a man being struck by flames as he ignited a fiery device in the building.

Again, the GPF has remained mum on enquiries about that incident.
