Two of three Venezuelans have been arrested as prime suspects in the stabbing death of their countryman outside Panda Supermarket, Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara on Saturday night, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said.
Police said construction worker Omar Nazareth Martinez Rodriguez, 30, was beaten and stabbed to the right hand, right foot, neck and chest.
Investigators were informed that Rodriguez was initially attacked while he was in a taxi heading home to Goed Fortuin. Police said the suspects, in the vicinity of the Demerara Harbour Bridge roundabout, rode up on a motorcycle and two of the them came off, opened the car door and began assaulting Rodriguez.
According to the GPF, the driver of the motorcar managed to drive off with one of the suspect in the car and stopped at Goed Fortuin, where he pulled the suspect off of Rodriguez and locked him, the now dead man, in the car.
The driver related that he then went into the Panda Supermarket and whilst heading back to his car, he saw Rodriguez running towards the supermarket, police added.
According to a security guard, 29, who was on duty at the supermarket, he saw the victim running towards the entry of the Supermarket, being chased by three identifiable males who then began assaulting the man. He further related that one of the suspects, who was armed with a knife stabbed Rodriguez several times before they escaped.
The stabbing incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m.
