Ms Geeta Chandan-Edmond on Saturday said she had already resigned from the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and is no longer connected with the parliamentary opposition A Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC).

Reacting to an earlier Demerara Waves Online News article quoting PNCR Executive Member Ganesh Mahipaul as saying on June 13 that steps have begun to recall her from the National Assembly, Ms Chandan-Edmond said she resigned on June 11.

“My resignation letter addressed and sent to the PNC General Secretary was a formal resignation from all roles, affiliations, and obligations connected to the PNC.

For the purpose of emphasis, my roles, affiliations and obligations include that as a Member of Parliament,” she said in her statement.

The General Secretary confirmed receiving her resignation and that of Region Four Chairman, Daniel Seeram. None, he said, was received from Deputy Vice Chairman Samuel Sandy.

Ms Chandan-Edmond, a short-lived PNCR General Secretary, said she had also dispatched a copy of her resignation to APNU+AFC Representative of the List of Candidates, David Granger and Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir.

“In an email to former President Granger, I outlined in detail the reasons and grounds for my resignation and thanked him for the opportunity to serve,” she said in a statement on Saturday.

She reiterated her June 2, 2025 position that she stands “proudly, boldly and unapologetically” with President Irfaan Ali.

“I stand with his leadership, his vision and his steadfast commitment to our country.

Under his leadership and under the People’s Progressive Party Civic, we are witnessing real change: investment in people, bold infrastructure, social upliftment and renewed sense of national pride,” she said.

She also said she would continue to stand “unshaken, unfazed, bold and unapologetic” with her support of President Irfaan Ali, Vice President Bharrat Jadgeo and the People’s Progressive Party Civic.

“It has not escaped my attention, the attempts to vilify me with racist, hateful and bigotry statements also with statements aimed at character assasination etc.” she added.
