A Cuban man on Friday chopped his step-daughter to death and severely injured her mother at their residence before he surrendered to police with the murder weapon, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said in a statement.
The prime suspect is 40-year-old Wispriey Alfonso.
“The suspect walked into the Kitty Police Station with the chopper in his hand.
He was arrested and placed into custody.
The chopper had what appeared to be blood stains,” police said.
The dead woman has been identified as Cuban 21-year-old Davely Morales, who was a sales representative.
Police said her body was examined, and chop wounds were seen on her hands, the back of her head, and jaw.
Police said her mother, Milaysi Rodrigues, was hospitalised in a “serious” condition.
The incident occurred at about 7 a.m. at Lot 56 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown where they all lived since they arrived in Guyana about one month ago.
Investigators were informed that another tenant in the apartment building heard a female screaming.
He observed that the door to apartment #1 was open and Alfonso was standing over the victim’s mother, who was lying on her back in the living room, and assaulting her with a ‘chopper’.
The man also said he observed Davely Morales lying beside her mother with chop wounds about her body in a pool of blood.
“The victim (Davely) then got up and ran out of the apartment and collapsed through the ‘walkway’, and the suspect then ran out of the building,” the police force said.
