A Lieutenant Colonel of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is in police custody in connection with a fatal road accident early Saturday morning on Burnham Drive, Wismar, Linden.
Police alleged that at about 1:40 Saturday morning, the motorcar PWW 2029, driven by the GDF officer, was proceeding south along Burnham Drive.
In the process of negotiating a right turn, 23-year-old Kellon Summers of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden was proceeding north on his motorcycle CP 6059, allegedly at a fast rate, and collided with the left side front door of the officer’s car.
“The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a safety helmet, fell onto the road surface, receiving injuries. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor,” the police force said.
The body of the deceased is at the Linden Senior Citizens Association and Funeral Home mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Both motor vehicles were lodged at the Wismar Police Station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer.
