Sixteen years after he was convicted in Barbados for drug trafficking, Guyanese Lemme Campbell was arrested on Monday at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) allegedly trying to clear GY$4 million worth of foreign marijuana, Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) James Singh said.
Campbell, 60, had gone to the Laparkan bond at the CJIA to clear a barrel when law enforcement agents arrested him.
Mr Singh said the four pounds of foreign marijuana was found among cereal in the barrel that was posted from the United States.
Campbell, his wife and two other persons had been convicted in Barbados in 2009 for possession and trafficking of marijuana and cocaine in November 2005.
They were sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
He and his wife were ordered released on time served by the Barbados Court of Appeal.
