Suspected robbers shot dead overnight

Last Updated on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, 11:47 by Writer

Police on Monday night shot dead a man, who was allegedly involved in a robbery at a supermarket, and killed another man who pointed a gun at them after allegedly robbing a security guard.

According to police, during a confrontation with a patrol inside the GST Chinese supermarket on Aubrey Barker Road and Blue Sackie Drive, one of the suspects, Cordell Eastman, was shot and killed.

A Glock 9mm pistol was recovered at the scene, police said.

During that incident, police said security guard Shevon Yearwood was shot to her left shoulder.

In response to a report of a robbery at 7 p.m. Monday at Camp and Quamina streets, Georgetown, police shot and killed Orandy Samuel after he pointed a gun at them while fleeing a robbery scene.

“During the pursuit, one of the ranks observed one of the suspects draw a firearm from his waist and point it in his direction. In response, the rank, who was armed with his service weapon, discharged one round at the suspect. The suspect ran west along Quamina Street before collapsing onto the roadway,” the Guyana Police Force said.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving a gunshot wound to his face.

A Ruger 9mm pistol bearing serial number TVK 99217, along with three matching rounds of ammunition, was recovered next to him, police added.

Police said four men were robbing 43-year-old Shurlan Critchlow.
