St Lucia’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Phillip J. Pierre on Tuesday announced that Guyana would help to boost his Caribbean island nation’s agriculture sector.
“I am pleased to inform of a collaboration between Guyana and St Lucia for the Agriculture Innovation Entrepreneurship programme,” he said.
He announced the initiative during the presentation of his country’s 2025-2026 National Budget to the Parliament.
He said Guyana’s help would be part of larger “strategic interventions” to reduce St Lucia’s food import bill and strengthen food security.
Mr Pierre said three shade houses have already arrived in St Lucia and were being constructed.
He explained that the assistance from Guyana would see the introduction of cost-effective, climate-smart technology and innovation in agriculture; building capacity in youths in climate-smart technology, and creating a sustainable avenue to engage and incentivise youth participation in agriculture entrepreneurship.
