Treasurer of the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), Elson Lowe is being touted as a possible coalition presidential candidate, but he on Friday stayed clear of confirming or denying so.
Mr Lowe, who is the PNCR’s spokesman on the economy, dodged a pointed question on whether he could emerge as the candidate for the PNCR-led A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC). “That’s not for me to put forward. As I said, we have a party and we focus on dealing with things in a structured manner so that’s not something I would comment on,” he said.
Asked: “Aren’t you being considered, though? He responded: “That would be something for internal consumption,” he said.
A prominent private sector executive, with links to a number of companies, Mr Lowe is also being floated as a possible option.
For the PNCR itself, last year’s party congress decided that its Leader, Aubrey Norton would be the presidential candidate and that he alone would decide to step aside and make way for someone else.
The PNCR and AFC have until March 31, 2025, to decide whether to contest the 2025 general elections as a coalition or separately. That date, according to an agreement, could be extended.
