Captured fugitive to stand trial for murder of girlfriend

A former barber in Linden was Thursday committed to stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend after the Magistrate’s Court found that there was sufficient evidence for him to face a High Court judge and jury, police said.

Shaquawan “Iswe” Alleyne allegedly shot and killed Shonette Dover between April 3 and April 30, 2024, at Canvas City, Linden.

The decision on the outcome of the preliminary inquiry was given by Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool.

The prosecution’s case was that after Dover was shot, he disposed of her body in a shallow grave, the Guyana Police Force said Saturday.

Days after the incident, Alleyne had fled to neighbouring Suriname where he was captured and subsequently returned by Surinamese officials in January 2024.
