Marijuana imported from New York intercepted

Last Updated on Friday, 14 March 2025, 21:58 by Writer

The barrel and the marijuana next to it

Just over ten pounds of marijuana that were imported in a barrel from Brooklyn, New York, were intercepted by undercover agents of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday, prompting a search for the consignee, police said.

Investigators said the narcotic was found in a blue jumbo barrel at Laparkan Shipping Company’s wharf, Lombard and Broad streets, Georgetown. Police said the barrel was sealed and shipped from one Junior Skeete of Brooklyn to Clive James of Durban Street, Lodge. Police said checks were being made for Clive James as the investigation continues.
The search was conducted in the presence of a customs officer.

Police said nine sealed transparent plastic bags with the words ‘California TRACKSTR’ attached to them containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems were found among clothing and sneakers.

The barrel, along with the suspected cannabis, was taken to the Crime Laboratory at CID Headquarters where it was processed and photographed.

“The suspected narcotic was then placed into separate evidence bags, sealed, marked and lodged at the Ruimveldt Police Station to be taken to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis. The barrel containing the clothing was lodged at the Ruimveldt police station for safekeeping,” police added.
