UG’s Open Day and Job Fair opens on Friday

Last Updated on Tuesday, 4 March 2025, 22:40 by Writer

Thousands of school children and young adults will descend upon the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus this weekend as the University hosts its annual Open Day and Job Fair, the institution said Tuesday.

This year’s Open Day and Job Fair will be held under the theme: Explore. Connect. Evolve. Apart from providing secondary school students, young people, and those wishing to pursue a university education an opportunity to assess their many choices at the University, the event promises an immersive experience for all attendees.

UG says this year continues the trend that the University began in 2022 of featuring an impressive lineup of leading public and private sector companies spanning various industries. This aspect has been successful in linking academia and industry, fostering a conducive environment for knowledge exchange, potential collaborations, and employment opportunities for persons to continue on the path to successful careers.

The University of Guyana, the nation’s premier tertiary institution, will be hosting its highly anticipated Annual Open Day and Job Fair on Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, at its Turkeyen Campus, and on Wednesday, March 12, at the Berbice Campus.

The Open Day component will allow members of the public and potential university students an opportunity to explore the 180+ programmes offered by UG and learn about various career paths. Visitors and high school students will also have the opportunity to engage with lecturers delivering these programmes, as well as representatives of various service units, student clubs, and more.

The Job Fair component will feature leading local and international public and private sector companies, including AGM Inc., ExxonMobil, Banks DIH, Guyana Water Inc., El Dorado Offshore, Linsayca, Omni Helicopters, Halliburton, Caribbean Airlines, Massy Motors, Guyana Defence Force, SLB, G Mining Ventures, Republic Bank, Ansa McAl Distributors, Gulf Engineering, and many more. Those seeking job and internship opportunities will have the chance to be interviewed and shortlisted on the spot.

Opening Ceremonies

The Turkeyen leg of the event kicks off with a grand Opening Ceremony on Friday, March 7, at 9:00 hrs at the Multipurpose Auditorium (Turkeyen Campus) and is expected to feature remarks from the Hon. Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand UG’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paloma Mohamed Martin, Registrar Dr. Nigel Gravesande, development partners, and other industry experts. The Opening Ceremony for the Tain leg of the event will be held on Wednesday, March 12, at the UGBC Auditorium at 9:00 hours. Both ceremonies will be livestreamed on UG’s Facebook page.

Students from secondary schools across Guyana, all post-secondary institutions, professionals from both the public and private sectors, and members of the public are invited to participate in this year’s Open Day and Job Fair. The event opens from 10:00 hrs. daily and is free of cost.

Key aspects of the event will be livestreamed on UG’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/uniofguyana/ and also on UG Broadcasting Service. Edited recordings of the event will be posted on UG’s website.
