Fire late Monday night destroyed at least two buildings opposite the Bartica Police Station in that gold mining township.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
One of the now destroyed buildings housed the Morocco Hotel and a bar, and the other Bolo’s clothing store.
The building that housed the hotel and bar belonged to the family of the late Lancelot King.
Region Seven Police Commander, Senior Superintendent, Linden Lord said two businesses were destroyed in the two buildings. He said there was no injury or loss of life.
Bartica is located about 100 kilometres by road and river south-west of Georgetown.
