A man, who tried to bribe a policeman with GYD$500,000 to release his 19-year old son, has been arrested and the cash lodged, the Guyana Police F0rce said in a statement.

Investigators did not name the man, but said he is 39-years old and lives in “C” Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Police said the man had hoped that his son, who was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, would have been released in exchange for the bribe.

The cash has been lodged as exhibits in the expected bribery court case against the man.

Last Tuesday one of two men on a motor cycle dropped an unlicensed .32 pistol with five rounds on Vlissengen Road and fled, during a police pursuit.
