Police are investigating the murder of a bread vendor during the course of a robbery.
Dead is Andre Alexander, 42, a self-employed businessman of lot 394 Section 4 Sophia, East Coast Demerara.
Police said he was shot in the stomach and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by two male suspects about 20:30hrs last night at the said address where he (victim) operates a business selling bread.
“Enquiries disclosed that the victim was in his shop when the suspects approached on a motor cycle, upon approaching the pillion rider requested three loaves of bread, paid with a $5,000 note and whilst the victim was in the process of making change, the said suspect whipped out a handgun and demanded cash which the victim refused and was shot,” a police spokesman said
Investigators said the suspect then relieved Blackman of his cash and they escaped on the motorcycle discharging several rounds in the process.
The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a conscious state but succumbed about 23:00hrs whilst receiving treatment.
No arrests have been made up to this time.
