FLASH BACK: President David Granger addressing the opening of the Annual Officers' Conference of the Guyana Defence Force

An East Bank Demerara businessman, who has been fingered in the alleged plot to kill President David Granger, recently attended a birthday party for a government Honorary Adviser, according to well-placed sources.

In the latest twist of events, police investigators are unable to locate the man who appeared on the privately-owned television newscast, HGPTV Nightly News, and implicated the businessman.

Police have been advised to arrange a confrontation between the two men, but now that the one who accused the businessman of encouraging him to open fire at the President cannot be found, the probe appears to have been stalled.

Demerara Waves Online News was told that the businessman, known as Rasta, attended Honorary Adviser Basil Blackman’s  recent birthday party at his (Blackman’s) Bel Air Park residence.

Among those in attendance at that party were President Granger and other top government officials.

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon was Sunday unable to say whether one of the suspects in the probe is the East Bank Demerara businessman. “I don’t know. The police will have to give you that information.”

Catering for Blackman’s party was done by a leading city hotel that is currently under expansion.

Addressing a community meeting at Den Amstel Primary School, West Coast Demerara, the Minister of State denied ever saying that the plot was an attempted assassination. “What we did, in fact say is that there was an allegation of a plot. That is what the police reported to us and that is what I reported to the nation at a press conference,” he said.Harmon said police informed government that it was investigating a report.
