A Central Rupununi resident was stabbed to death at about 2:30 Tuesday morning while he and his wife were returning home.
He waa pronounced dead on arrival at the Lethem Hospital.
Dead is 31 year old Security Guard, Haimchand Persaud C/D Raj of 378 Tabatinga, Lethem
Police said he was rushed to the medical institution by his reputed wife, bleeding profusely from a single knife-stab wound to the left region of his chest.
Investigators said he was fatally injured by an unidentified male who allegedly attempted to rob them, while on their way home.
Police were told that Persaud and his reputed wife departed an entertainment bar about 1: 55 AM in their community, after imbibing with some friends and were on their way home when they were attacked.
“As they were in close to their home, the suspect pounced with a knife and attempted to rob them, during which a physical encounter ensued between the victim (deceased) and the suspect who stabbed him (victim) and escaped on a motor cycle,” police said.
Statements obtained and investigators are following all leads to solve this crime.
