A West Bank Demerara woman sustained a gunshot injury to her mouth on Thursday.
She has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a private hospital in Georgetown. She has been identified as Ovika Jagmohan
Police said the incident occurred at her residence at Boodhoo Scheme, Schoonard West Bank Demerara at about 12:30 PM.
Investigators have since detained her husband, Deonarine Jagmohan, who is the brother of well-known businessman, Tameshwar Jagmohan. Deonarine’s handgun has been also seized as part of the probe, police said.
The Guyana Police Force did not issue a statement on the incident up to early Thursday night.
However, Demerara Waves Online News was told that Deonarine informed police that he was cleaning his licensed 9MM handgun when a round was discharged, hitting her to her right jaw.
Investigators were not immediately able to speak with Ovita because of the injury to her mouth. There is no indication so far that the two have had a history of domestic dispute.
