The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) on Friday donated a grand total of $1M to the Golden Jubilee Celebrations which will be specifically used for a local fashion show.
Over at the Ministry of Telecommunications and Tourism, Minister Kathy Hughes was on hand to receive the donation and thank the company for its support.
The Minister detailed that the Fashion segment of the jubilee celebrations would be very important as it would showcase that the designing industry in Guyana is far improved.
“The fashion segment provides an opportunity for over 22 Guyanese fashion designers to present to the Guyanese public and diaspora…to really see the high standard our fashion industry has developed,” said Hughes.
She related that for five days, there would be a series of fashion shows from May 19.
“We have engaged the support of the Guyana fashion council to ensure that all the fashion designers of all ages and genres to present a minimum of 10-15 pieces during the fashion shows,” the Minister further indicated.
GTT’s Public Relations Officer Alison Parker stated that the company was particularly pleased to be fulfilling its social responsibility in such a manner.
“We have been an integral part of every major national event for the past 25 years since our entrance into the local market,” she said adding “our involvement in the jubilee celebration is not limited to the fashion show but we will be a part of GuyExpo – we have done major sponsorship for that event.”
GTT is also slated to organize a major concert for the National Stadium on May 26.
“GTT as a company continues to demonstrate our understanding of our corporate social responsibility,” said Parker. (Jomo Brusheildon Paul)
