General Secretary of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Clement Rohee wants the impending promotions of several officers within the Guyana Police Force (GPF) be placed on hold.

Rohee at a Monday morning press conference berated the manner in which the police force is currently being directed by politicians and urged that officer with pending matters before disciplinary bodies not be promoted.

“Little or nothing is know about the number of disciplinary ,matters that have been before the Police Service Commission for some time now,” said Rohee a former Home Affairs Minister.

He stated that since the current administration has taken steps to dismiss the heads of one of those bodies, it further begs the need for integrity screening of the ranks that are being promoted.

“Cecil Sullivan’s contracted was terminated by Minister Ramjattan and as a result the work of the authority ended prematurely, thus placing in limbo those disciplinary matters that should be addressed urgently in the interest of the force,” he stated.

Rohee pointed out that a disciplinary matter concerning Assistant Police Commissioner David Ramnarine was is among several matter slated for consideration at the level of the disciplinary authority.

He said that there are some concerns over Ramnarine and others being given promotions in 2016
