The man, who was caught swallowing cocaine, at an East Coast Demerara hotel was Friday fined and jailed, but a charge was dropped against his accomplice who was also arrested in the hotel room.
City Magistrate, Judy Latchman fined Dwayne Adams of 38 Will Street, Golden Grove GYD$2.8 million and sentenced him to 54 months imprisonment after he changed his plea to guilty.
The 35 year old man was convicted on a charge of conspiring to traffick cocaine on Novemer 17, 2015 at Alpha International Hotel, Ogle, East Coast Demerara. Smith was taken to a hospital where he excreted several cocaine pellets.
The prosecution withdrew the charge against 44-year old Hubert Smith of 3464 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Earlier this week, they pleaded not guilty to conspiring with each other to traffick 848 grammes of cocaine.
Defence Lawyer, Peter Hugh argued that Smith had no part to play with the illicit narcotic and that Adams accepted full knowledge of the cocaine.
