Hundreds of passengers travelling aboard Dynamic Airways on the Guyana-New York route in recent days have had to endure hours of putrid smell of urine.
Local representative of the United States-headquartered carrier, Gerry Gouveia told Demerara Waves Online News that he was aware of the issue but the airline could not have grounded the plane because flights would have been cancelled.
Gouveia said that the plane would be taken off all flights and the carpet would be removed.
Passengers said they were informed that persons travelling to Mecca for the annual pilgrimage of Hajj urinated in the plane during the journey. One of the terribly upset passengers, who arrived from New York Thursday morning, complained bitterly about her experience and that of other passengers. “I have been travelling a lot and it’s the first time I have experienced something like this. It was such an embarrassment and disgrace to be coming to visit Guyana and that’s what you have to deal with and the entire plane every single passenger was complaining that the plane just reeked of urine,” the passenger told Demerara Waves Online News on condition of anonymity.
She said her in-laws endured a similar experience two days ago, but she did not think it was that serious and opted to fly with Dynamic Airways.
Gouveia confirmed that the passengers from India to Saudia Arabia saturated the cabin with urine. “We are nearing the end of the high season now. They will pull the aircraft down and replace it. If they do so now, they will have to cancel all the flights,” he told Demerara Waves Online News.
More than two million Muslims from around the world are converging on Mecca for the pilgrimage that is expected to start on September 21.
