Prime Minister and First Vice President Moses Nagamootoo took the oath as acting President this morning, being sworn in by Acting Chancellor of the Judiciary Justice Carl Singh. This is because President David Granger left for the United States early this morning Friday June 12.Nagamootoo is expected to perform duties that fall under the purview of the President until His Excellency returns to Guyana, the Government Information Agency (GINA) stated. It is suspected that the President has gone to the North American state to meet with his supports who have decided to celebrate the Coalition’s political victory with a massive march and rally in Brooklyn in his honour.
The event which is expected to take place this Sunday at Bedford and Church Avenues, and will proceed East along Church Avenue to Schenectady Avenue, was conceived by supporters within the Diaspora who sold the idea to Coalition representatives in that country.
A special invitation was extended to Minister of State in the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon and other Senior Government functionaries to offer remarks in relation to the new Government and its expectations.
