Three fire fighters were Wednesday afternoon injured after a fire tender toppled on its side on the runway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Fire Chief Marlon Gentle said.
No departing or arriving flights were affected by the accident, according to usually reliable sources at the country’s major airport.
The incident was caused by a tyre blowout as the vehicle was heading to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) hangar.
Gentle said the driver and two other fire fighters were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for treatment to minor injuries.
The Fire Chief said that apart from the glass having been broken, the fire tender’s equipment was not damaged.
