A man was severely burnt Monday morning during an explosion of a fuel tanker that he was inside servicing, according to well-placed sources.
He is 28-years old Charles “Junior” Allen of Bel Air Village, Greater Georgetown. The incident occurred at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara about 9 AM.
Allen was rescued by colleagues and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he has been admitted a patient at the Burn Care Unit.
Sources said Allen was sanding the inside of the tanker that usually transports gasoline. While the tanker was said to be empty, sparks from the sanding disc ignited gasoline vapour.
The explosion was heard several miles away.
