Fisherman, gold miner shot dead

A  fisherman and a gold miner  were shot dead in two separate incidents in the North West District (NWD) and at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara.

Dead are gold miner, 37-year old Devon Moore  of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara and fisherman 45-years old Elvin Pollard of Crane, West Coast Demerara.

In the latest incident, Pollard was in a boat under the Pritipaul Singh Investments Wharf at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara when he was confronted by an armed security guard attached to the company about 9:35 Thursday morning, police said.

Pollard was shot to his chest and he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The security guard is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

In the other incident, police said they have dispatched a team to investigate the reported murder of miner, which occurred at about  5 PM Wednesday, at Five Star, North West District.

 “It has been reported that Devon Moore was in his camp, when a man armed with a shotgun entered and shot him and escaped,” police said in a statement.  

Moore was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

 Police said the suspect has not been arrested as yet.
