Police have arrested a man and seized an abandoned vehicle in connection with the discovery of the body of a man on the Courbane Park roadway, East Coast Demerara.
The dead man has been identified by investigators as Mustak Alli, 51, of Annandale South, East Coast Demerara.
His body has been moved to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where an autopsy would be performed to determine the cause of his death.
Preliminarily, police are treating Alli’s death as a hit-and-run. A senior police officer said investigators were expected to view footage from a nearby surveillance camera.
Across at De Willem Public Road, 56-year old Imran Mohamed was killed after he was struck down by a lorry.
Police said Mohamed attempted to cross the roadway on his bicycle and was struck down by a motor lorry. He was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the motor vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
