Three officers of the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) were Thursday afternoon arrested in a sting operation after they allegedly certified a fuel tanker in exchange for a large sum of cash.
Police said the GNBS staffers were nabbed at their Sophia Exhibition Site office moments after the owner of the truck tanker handed over at least GUY$150,000. DemWaves News was told that the money was marked.
Deputy Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud said the detainees could be charged with corruption transaction by a public officer. He said the certificate was also taken by police as evidence.
After the truck fuel tanker failed the test, the officers allegedly asked the owner to pay GUY$200,000 to obtain the certificate but that figure was eventually broken down to GUY$150,000.
