Two men were Sunday afternoon arrested during a failed robbery bid at the home of a female gold miner, eyewitnesses said. The incident occurred about 1:30 PM just off Bent and Lime Streets, one door south of Merrimanās Funeral Home.
The miner was not at home but the bandits pounced on her mother as she was about to leave the heavily fortified yard. A source familiar with the incident related that a female accomplice went to the minerās mother under the pretext that she knew her.
At the same time, the male bandits pushed back the woman inside the yard and into the house. One gunshot rang out, alerting a police patrol that was in the area at the time.
Lawmen immediately cornered the men inside the house and recovered one handgun that one of the suspects threw into a nearby alley.
