Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) agents uncovered a total of 20 kilogrammes of cocaine stuffed in achar in the possession of two passengers who are unconnected to each other.
A CANU source said the 78-year old Guyana-born American, who migrated to the United States in 1984, was allegedly fetching 10.4 kilogrammes of cocaine while the 38-year old woman from Kitty was allegedly in possession of 9.658 kilogrammes of cocaine. The man returned to Guyana for the first time last year.
Anti-drug agents said the cocaine was concealed in two packs of achar each to the man and the woman.
A CANU source said investigators are looking for a Guyanese deportee who they believe could assist them in their probe.
The passengers were about to leave on a Caribbean Airlines flight to New York on Sunday afternoon when agents got a tip off.
