A 37-year old man died, who was returning home from a wedding house, is Guyana’s latest road fatality.
He is Fazal Baksh of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice. Police said he was riding a motorcycle along the main road at D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice at about 3:20 AM Sunday morning.
“He lost control of the vehicle and collided with a utility pole,” police said.
Relatives said the father of three was under the influence of alcohol because he had consumed a few beers at the wedding house at Cotton Tree. “He accelerated a bit too hard on the dangerous turn at D’ Edward and slammed into a light pole,” the relative said.
The relative said that Baksh, a labourer at a rice farmer, had domestic problems which had resulted in him going to the wedding house where he imbibed before returning home.
Baksh was a former student of Cotton Tree Primary School.
