Seven months after a sawmill worker was found with his throat slit in a ramshackle living quarters at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara a prime suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.Shawn Tyson, 28, of Kallicharran Sand Pit Road, Soesdyke is expected to be arraigned Monday on a charge of murder contrary to common law based on advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He is accused of the murder of 22-year old Khemraj “Tony” Singh in May 2013.
Police sources said that after diligent investigations they were able to crack the case based on circumstantial evidence.
They include the discovery of Singh’s Blackberry Bold in the possession of someone else. Police were able to trace back the phone to Tyson who had given the phone to someone else.
Investigators also found out that Singh and Tyson had had a previous disagreement over stolen items. At that time, Singh had pushed down Tyson’s door and searched his premises. When nothing was found, he apologised.
Singh, who was a caretaker/ supervisor at TradeLink, hailed from Airy Hall, Essequibo Coast.
