Alcohol-related domestic violence leaves woman dead

A drunken couple’s common-law union has finally come to a brutal end after years of spousal abuse by the man.

A 40-year old man known as Reeaz allegedly badly beat 45-year old Maharani Parmanand to death at their Grass Field, Lusignan home. Police said her body was found with “blood oozing from her nostrils.”

The mother of three girls- 28, 25 and 10 years old- was an alcoholic like her partner.

The eldest daughter, Kavita Persaud, recalled that her mother was constantly beaten during her five-year long relationship. Earlier this year, she said her mother’s lower limbs were broken allegedly by her stepfather and yet still the two patched up their differences.

After the two drank rum on Sunday, he Reaz allegedly inflicted severe blows about his lover’s body. Neighbours also recalled hearing the man beating the woman again Tuesday morning.

She was found dead clad only in a panty.

The body was taken to a city funeral parlour for an autopsy, even as police continue their search for the suspect.
